Edit Annotation

The ConVoid annotation tag family ("CC Annotation Void") controls how opening dimensions and information are displayed in your plans. By default, it may not match your project's unit system, font standards, or naming conventions. This chapter shows you how to customize it.

Units in tags are independent of project units

A very common issue: your project is set to millimeters, but the annotation tags still show centimeters or meters. This happens because the tag family has its own unit settings. Follow the steps below to fix this.

Edit the Annotation Family

  1. Select an annotation tag in your project and click Edit Family in the ribbon. Alternatively, open the .rfa tag file directly from your library.

  2. In the Family Editor, select the label you want to modify.

  3. Click Edit Label (the icon with a hashtag/number symbol) to open the label settings.

  4. In the Edit Label dialog you can adjust:

    • Which parameters are displayed
    • The font and font size
    • The unit format for each parameter

Change Display Units (e.g. cm to mm)

This is the most frequently requested change. To switch a parameter from centimeters to millimeters:

  1. In the Edit Label dialog, select the parameter showing the wrong units.
  2. Find the Unit Format column on the right side.
  3. Click the button in that column to open the Format settings.
  4. Uncheck Use project settings and set the units to Millimeters (mm).
  5. Adjust decimal places as needed.
  6. Click OK to close all dialogs.
Repeat for each parameter

You need to repeat this for every label/parameter in the tag that displays dimensions (e.g. Total Width, Total Height, Total Diameter, Total Length).

Change Font and Font Size

To change font settings, you need to modify the label's type properties - not the dimension styles in the family.

Quick method

Place a new label in the family, change its type properties (font, size) to your desired values, then delete the temporary label. The type settings will persist for existing labels of the same type.

The default text height is 2 mm at print scale. The annotation scales automatically with the view scale.

What You Can Do

  • Change the font and font size
  • Rename, add, or delete parameters
  • Change units via the Unit Format column in the Edit Label dialog
  • Use your own shared parameters
  • Create your own annotation family using the provided ConVoid shared parameters
  • Rename the family and its types to match your naming convention

What You Must Not Do

Do not modify core family structure
  • Do not delete any existing family parameters, formulas, or geometry
  • Do not change the category of the family

Breaking these rules can cause ConVoid features like Smart Tag to stop working correctly.

Apply Your Changes

After editing, save the family and click Load into Project to apply the changes. All existing tags in the project will update automatically.
