Approval and Exchange Process
Coordination of builder's work openings in ConVoid follows a defined iterative cycle between two roles: the Creator (typically the MEP planner) and the Reviewer (typically the architect or structural engineer). The Creator produces and submits openings; the Reviewer evaluates them and returns a decision for each. The cycle continues until every opening is approved by all required disciplines.
Rejected openings are revised and re-submitted, with the approval status automatically reset to "Pending" for the affected discipline. This ensures that every change re-enters the review process and that no decision is carried over from a superseded geometry.
Process Steps
- Create openings: the Creator generates openings in Revit, either automatically through clash detection or manually where required.
- Provide for review: the Creator submits the openings to the Reviewer through a linked Revit model, a BCF export, or an Excel, IFC, or 2D plan file, depending on the Reviewer's toolset.
- Review and approve: the Reviewer evaluates each opening using ConVoid for Revit, ConVoid Manager, or an external BCF platform, spreadsheet, or 2D plan, and records an approval status of Approved, Rejected, or Pending.
- Return results: the Reviewer returns the decisions, comments, and (where applicable) snapshots to the Creator.
- Import results: the Creator imports the returned decisions into the source model, where ConVoid merges them into each opening's approval record.
If all openings have been approved by all required disciplines, the process is complete. Any rejected or pending openings are revised and re-submitted, beginning a new iteration of the cycle.
Exchange Formats
The diagram below shows the file formats supported between ConVoid for Revit, ConVoid Manager, and external systems. Each exchange consists of a geometry component (which carries the position and dimensions of every opening) and a decision component (which carries the approval status, comments, and snapshots). Selecting a node or arrow highlights the formats available in that direction.
